Halaqa: Feminist Qur’an Discussion Group

Online via Zoom

Date: Tuesday 12th May
Time: 5.15pm for a 5.30pm start – 7pm
Venue: Online via Zoom
Tickets: Please register via Eventbrite.

We are so pleased to welcome you to our online Halaqa, a feminist Qur’an discussion group. We’ll be discussing Surah Al Qadr – 97 (Fate, The Majesty, The Destiny). Bring your Qur’ans, the more translations the better! This is time to listen to others and share your thoughts on the impact, meaning and emotion of this Surah and its themes. If you haven’t accessed the Qur’an lately or you’re beginning to re-connect with it, this is a great place to start. We create these discussion groups to learn about each other’s experiences of the Qur’an in order to better understand the Qur’an itself with the belief that the Qur’an is a live, dynamic, sacred document. Join the event at 5.15pm for a 5.30pm start.

This month’s halaqa will be co-lead by two of our imams, Asma and Alaa and the event will follow this format:

5.30pm:  Introduction to the Inclusive Mosque Halaqa
5.40pm: Introduction to Surah Qadr, its context and relevance.
6pm: Open discussion. If there are a large number of attendees, we will use Zoom breakout rooms for this.
6.40pm: Back to main room closing remarks.

To join please register via Eventbrite we will get back to you on the morning of Tuesday 12th May with a link to the online halaqa and joining instructions.

Emails from Eventbrite sometimes go straight to spam and junk folders so please check those as well as your inbox.
