Arba’een Halaqa 2024

Fitzrovia Community Centre & Online

11.45am – 1.30pm

Tickets available via Eventbrite

We’d like to welcome you all to our Arba’een Halaqa 2024 which will be delivered in-person and online. This is a participatory discussion so please be prepared to share resources you’ve come across and if you’re comfortable, your own experiences. This event is for everyone but we will centre Shi’a voices here. In this discussion we’ll be looking at a few themes including:

  • Transmission of knowledge and practices from Ahlul Bayt to us in the current day.
  • Leaning into emotions as part of Islamic practice, not separating them from reason.
  • The legacies of Ahlul Bayt and how we carry them forward today.

This year also marks the 44th Arba’een Procession through central London organised by arbaeenuk.org. A group of IMI community members will be attending and we invite you all to attend with us. In past years we have found it to be a very welcoming generous event. After the halaqa, some of us will take the bus to join the Arba’een procession in Marble Arch after the halaqa aiming to get there for 2pm. To read about the last time we attended the Arba’een Process, see our Arba’een Reflections on our website.

Prayer
We invite you all to pray dhur with us. This will be led by an imam who is a woman, nonbinary or genderqueer. Please show them your full support. There is no obligation to pray with us and anyone who doesn’t want to pray can stay quiety in the space.

Access

The ground floor of the building is wheelchair accessible with wheelchair accessible, gender neutral toilets. Auto captions will be enabled on the zoom call. If you need a free ticket, please use promo code free1532 and be sure to click ‘apply’ when registering.
