Code of Conduct

At Inclusive Mosque, we expect our community to come together out of a shared love for each other and all people experiencing injustice in the world. If you cannot adhere to the behaviours expected below, please reconsider whether Inclusive Mosque is a space for you:

By coming to an Inclusive Mosque event I confirm that I will:

  • Not put Inclusive Mosque, its organisers or the Inclusive Mosque community at risk or compromise the safety of the gathering and the people at the event.
  • Do everything I can to make Inclusive Mosque events accessible to disabled people.
  • Respect the building or the online space in which the event is taking place and leave it in the same or better condition than I found it.
  • Not bring any form of racism, ableism, transphobia, homophobia or sectarianism to Inclusive Mosque and I will not normalise them.
  • Consider my privileges and step back to give room to those who are more marginalised than I am and do so with generosity not resentment.
  • Use inclusive language and avoid gendered and ableist terms even when they are normal in society outside of Inclusive Mosque e.g. words like ‘lame’ and ‘dumb’ have no place at Inclusive Mosque.
  • Not judge or comment on what other people are wearing, their gender expression or how they show up in their bodies. This means I won’t comment on anyone’s weight loss or weight gain, choice of makeup or clothing.
  • Consider the internalised Islamophobia that I may carry because of harm I’ve experienced from Muslims. I commit to challenging that internalised Islamophobia because the Inclusive Mosque community must not be built on a shared dislike or hatred, rather a shared optimism that people and systems can change as Rasulullah taught us.
  • Respect everyone’s right to privacy by not taking photos of anyone without their permission and not gossiping about things people have shared in confidence.
