Join our imam team!

We are inviting Muslims of all genders and sects (and none) from our community to lead prayers at IMI prayer events. This can be for in-person or online events. Our imams can also volunteer to give khutbahs if they want to.

We especially welcome applications from women, non-binary and agender Muslims.

IMI is pluralistic, which means Muslims from all sects and traditions are welcome.

You don’t have to be a scholar to lead prayers or give khutbahs, but you must learn about different Islamic sects, and what Muslims from different sects might need from our prayer spaces.

If you want to volunteer as an IMI imam, fill in the form below. We don’t pay our imams to lead prayers at IMI, but we can pay for your travel expenses.

Imam training

Our imams have responsibilities because they are in a leadership role. As an IMI imam, you will have to undergo training to learn about types of discrimination in our communities – such as sectarianism (such as shiaphobia and anti-Ahmadi hatred), racism (such as anti-Black racism), sexism, ableism, homophobia, and transphobia in mosques. You will learn about what you should do when you see discriminatory behaviour and language in our spaces. You will also have training in safeguarding – how to keep yourself and other people safe at our events.

You will agree to our policies for imams, such as our Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct.
